Dovzhenko, VUFKU, 1930. A Ukrainian village during collectivization: an old man dies among pears, a tractor arrives, Vasyl is killed after a harvest dance, the funeral is also a political meeting. BFI notes the film was commissioned as farm propaganda and then denounced as Ukrainian nationalist work; Dovzhenko lost his post at the Kiev Film Institute.
