The Paris Commune of 1871 through a shopgirl, Louise, at the New Babylon department store, and a soldier she loves who will be told to shoot. Dmitri Shostakovich wrote the score, his first for film, and the accompaniment fought the picture in some houses. Gosfilmofond restorations put music and image back together. FEKS eccentricity applied to a massacre. The store windows keep selling while the street goes down.
