Heinosuke Gosho, Shochiku, 1933, from Yasunari Kawabata's Izu no odoriko. A Tokyo student on a walking trip falls in with a troupe; Kinuyo Tanaka is Kaoru, the young dancer he is not quite allowed to love. The first of six films of the novella. Gosho shoots roads, inns, and the girl's laugh when she learns he is not too fine for them. Tanaka was already the face Shochiku trusted. A short story opened to weather and class.
