Directed by Victor Fleming
Victor Fleming, Paramount, 1926, from Sinclair Lewis's novel. Clara Bow is Alverna, a Minneapolis manicurist who marries Joe Easter (Ernest Torrence), a backwoods storekeeper, then takes an interest in New York lawyer Ralph Prescott (Percy Marmont) when he comes north to fish. James Wong Howe photographed it. Variety liked Bow as a corking little ingenue. Lewis saw it in a Minnesota theater and told the house he would not have recognized his book.
