Tumbleweeds

William S. Hart's last film, 1925, directed by King Baggot and produced by Hart for United Artists. Don Carver, a Box K ranch boss, faces the opening of the Cherokee Strip to homesteaders. The film dates the rush 1889; the historical Cherokee Outlet run was 16 September 1893. Hart stages the cannon, the Sooners, and a race shot with a long-focus Akeley camera. A 1939 reissue added an eight-minute spoken prologue, the only time audiences heard his voice on film.
