Sunnyside

1919 · 33 min · US

Directed by Charlie Chaplin

Chaplin, 1919, First National: a farmhand who also runs the hotel, in love with the village belle, dreaming a dance with nymphs that the village will not allow. Edna Purviance again. The ballet in the woods is the film people argue about: too pretty, or the first time Chaplin let the Tramp want something that was not a meal. Sunnyside is the town. The mood is the title, and it is a lie.
