The Norrtull Gang

Per Lindberg's delightful ensemble comedy follows a group of young women office workers navigating love, money, and independence in 1920s Stockholm. The "gang" of the title — named for the Norrtull district where they live — are cheerful, resourceful, and refreshingly unsentimental about romance, pooling their meager salaries and scheming together to outwit the men who underestimate them. The film is a charming time capsule of modern Scandinavian womanhood in the Jazz Age, full of lively performances, sharp social observation, and a warmth toward its characters that never tips into condescension.
