Directed by Émile Cohl
Émile Cohl, Gaumont, Paris, February to May or June 1908; released 17 August at the Théâtre du Gymnase. A stick figure in evening dress is yanked, seated, boxed, and remade as the line keeps changing jobs. About 700 ink drawings on paper, each photographed twice (on twos) and printed in negative, so the lines look like chalk on a blackboard. Cohl's hands bookend the reel in matching white ink. The first fully drawn cartoon, as distinct from Blackton's chalkboard and cutouts.
