L'Herbier, 1928, from Zola, for Société des Cinéromans. Banker Saccard (Pierre Alcover) and rival Gunderman smash companies and people; Line (Marie Glory) and the aviator Hamelin are the small lives in the way; Brigitte Helm, imported after Metropolis, is the wife who will not stay bought. L'Herbier sent the camera through the Bourse and down from its dome. CNC restorations run well over two hours. Money as architecture, and a last silent that spends like a talkie.
