A stockbroker's wife loses charity money at the market, borrows from an ivory dealer, and is branded with his mark when she will not pay in kind. Sessue Hayakawa is the dealer, and he is the film, which knows it and does not like it. Alvin Wyckoff lit it low and from one side, which the trades called Lasky lighting. The branding, then the courtroom. DeMille, 1915, with Fannie Ward.
