Mabel at the Wheel

1914 · 23 min · US

Directed by Mabel Normand, Mack Sennett

Mabel Normand and Mack Sennett, Keystone, 1914. Chaplin is the villain, not the Tramp. He kidnaps Mabel's driver; she puts on the racing clothes and finishes the course. They used footage of the 1914 Vanderbilt Cup at Santa Monica, including the grandstand and Dead Man's Curve. BFI holds a restoration. Chaplin did not want to take direction from her. Sennett kept the picture going.
