The Knockout

A two-reel Keystone that has nearly everything the studio ever invented: street fights, a fixed boxing match, the Keystone Kops, and Charlie Chaplin in a supporting role, one of the few times the Tramp is not the center of the picture. Roscoe Arbuckle is Pug, a good-hearted strongman who thrashes mashers bothering his girl (Minta Durfee) and gets talked into fighting the champion Cyclone Flynn (Edgar Kennedy). Chaplin, as an officious referee, spends the fight getting punched and turning a prizefight into a three-man brawl. Directed by Charles Avery, 1914. Arbuckle at full athletic tilt, Chaplin still finding his feet.
