Directed by D. W. Griffith
D.W. Griffith, 1921, the last film with both Gish sisters, from the 1874 play Les Deux Orphelines. Henriette (Lillian) and Louise (Dorothy) go to Paris to treat Louise's blindness; an aristocrat separates them on the eve of the Revolution. Griffith added Robespierre, Danton, and title cards warning Americans about Bolshevism after 1917. Joseph Schildkraut is the chevalier. It was Griffith's last commercially solid picture, and the last time he directed Lillian Gish.
