Directed by Cecil B. DeMille
A cowboy, a schoolmarm, the lynching of his best friend because the code requires it, and a duel at the end. The hanging is the scene: the Western's moral arithmetic, worked out before William S. Hart arrived to make it solemn. Cecil B. DeMille's third film, 1914, from Owen Wister, shot in the hills with Dustin Farnum in the part he had played on stage.
