Directed by Michael Curtiz
Michael Curtiz, Warner Bros., 1928, with a Vitaphone score and some talk. A modern war romance is cut against the Flood: Dolores Costello and George O’Brien in both halves. Darryl Zanuck’s story. The deluge was staged with water released on extras; several were injured, a fact the later literature does not treat as rumor. Curtiz was still new to the studio. The biblical half is DeMille grammar on a Warners lot. The war half is the justification for the ark. A hybrid, already half a talkie, about two disasters sharing a cast.
