Lois Weber, 1921: Professor Griggs (Philip Hubbard) teaches on a wage that will not feed his family, while the shoemaker next door eats well. Daughter Amelia (Claire Windsor) works the library; rich student Phil West (Louis Calhern) falls for her and finally sees the hole in her shoe. Weber shoots real Los Angeles streets and a chicken almost stolen, then put back. The blot is not poverty — it is what the well-off refuse to notice.
