Midnight

A jury foreman has sent a woman to the chair for shooting her lover, and on the night of the execution his own daughter comes home having shot hers. Most of it takes place in the foreman's parlour, with reporters at the door and the clock moving towards midnight, and the argument about justice is the play's. O. P. Heggie is the foreman, Sidney Fox the daughter, and Humphrey Bogart, in an early role, the gangster she kills; it was re-released in 1947 as Call It Murder with his name above the title, which the part does not earn.
