Lonesome

Pál Fejös, Universal, 1928. A factory pressman (Glenn Tryon) and a telephone girl (Barbara Kent) spend Coney Island together, lose each other in the crowd, and do not know they already share a boarding-house wall. A few talkie inserts were added for the sound release. Fejös, late of Hungary, shoots the park as a machine that swallows people and sometimes returns them. Seventy minutes. The AFI notes the hybrid silent-sound prints. It is a city romance with almost no plot except getting lost. The title is the condition before the beach.
