Matt Moore is the fourth. The chess Turk and the wax-museum front are Browning’s carnival brain before The Unholy Three. Shot by William Fildew, the Outside the Law cameraman; the rooms feel reused. Each thief waits for the others to sleep. Dean is still the center of Browning’s Universal crime pictures.
