The Skeleton Dance

Midnight, an owl, a churchyard, and four skeletons who climb out to dance until the cock crows, one of them playing another's ribs as a xylophone. The cartoon was built to Carl Stalling's music rather than the music fitted to the cartoon, which was the point of the new series; this is the first Silly Symphony, and Ub Iwerks animated most of it. Distributors at first refused it as too gruesome; the Carthay Circle ran it and the objections stopped. The Mouse was one thing Disney could do, and this was the other. 1929, five minutes.
