Black and White

Блэк энд уайт

1932 · 6 min · SU

Directed by Leonid Amalrik, Ivan Ivanov-Vano

Willie, a Black sweeper in Havana, asks the sugar king why the Blacks do the work and the whites eat the sugar, and is struck for asking. Leonid Amalrik and Ivan Ivanov-Vano animate Mayakovsky's poem and widen it into an emblem of the American South, men in a field, men in chains, a cell, the electric chair, a white man with a whip in every frame, drawn in flat black and white with the graphic force of a poster. Six minutes, made in the year Mezhrabpom also abandoned a live-action Black and White with Langston Hughes in the cast. 1932.
