Directed by John Ford
St. Louis, a confidence man, and Dannemora Dan break out of prison to fix a friend's trouble and break back in for the big baseball game. Spencer Tracy, in his first feature, is St. Louis; Humphrey Bogart is the friend, a trusty going straight for a girl in the women's wing; and this is the only film in which the two of them appear together. John Ford turned a prison drama into a comedy when MGM's The Big House got to theatres first, said the script was a bunch of junk, and made the prison a small town with bars. Warren Hymer is Dan. Fox, 1930.
