I Don't Want to Be a Man

Ossi Oswalda, bossed by a strict guardian, gets a tailcoat made and goes out as a man, and the guardian, not recognising her, takes her drinking. Two men in evening dress kiss, and the film treats it as a joke and means it as one. A gender comedy that assumes the audience is quicker than the censor. Lubitsch, 1918, about forty-five minutes.
