Directed by Raoul Walsh
An orphan on the Bowery grows into a gang boss and is pulled the other way by a settlement worker. Raoul Walsh shot it on the Lower East Side with real streets, and the fire on the excursion boat has real panic in it; he already shoots crowds like weather. The gangster feature starts here. Fox, 1915, seventy-two minutes, from Owen Kildare's memoir, with Rockliffe Fellowes and Anna Q. Nilsson.
