The Wedding March

Prince Nicki, a Viennese officer with debts, meets Mitzi at the Corpus Christi procession of 1914 and courts her under the apple blossoms at night; his family sells him to the limping daughter of a corn-plaster millionaire, and Mitzi is claimed by the butcher. Stroheim wrote it, directed it, and plays Nicki, with Fay Wray as Mitzi and ZaSu Pitts as the heiress. He shot far more than Paramount would release, the film was cut in two, and the second half, The Honeymoon, burned in 1959. What remains has the procession in two-strip Technicolor and ends, as he intended, with the wrong wedding. 1928.
