Die Stadt ohne Juden
1924 · AT
Directed by H.K. Breslauer
Utopia expels its Jews to cure a crisis, the economy collapses without them, and a man sneaks back to make the case. A satire that turned out to be a forecast, and the expulsion trains are the shot. Hugo Bettauer, who wrote the novel, was murdered by a Nazi the following year; the film gave his story a happy ending and called Vienna Utopia. H. K. Breslauer, 1924.
