Captain Spaulding, the African explorer, arrives at Mrs Rittenhouse's Long Island house party, a painting is stolen and stolen again, Chico and Harpo are the musicians who were hired to play and do not, and Groucho shoots an elephant in his pyjamas. The Marx Brothers' second Broadway show put on film with little changed, songs and all, the camera watching from the stalls with Margaret Dumont presiding. Not their most cinematic picture, and one of the purest records of the act as it was played. Paramount, shot at Astoria, 1930.
