Le pêcheur de perles
1907 · 12 min · FR
Directed by Ferdinand Zecca
A fisherman follows a vision of women into the sea, walks the ocean floor past painted creatures, and opens a giant oyster, which is the set piece the whole film has been saving up for. Ferdinand Zecca made it at Pathé in 1907 with stencil colour and the studio's trick department doing what Méliès did on a bigger budget. A fairy tale about wanting what is under the water. Twelve minutes.
