No print survives, and the site holds this entry as a record of what was made. J. C. Daniel, a dentist from Travancore, wrote, produced, directed and starred in the first Malayalam film in 1928: Chandrakumar, son of a rich man in Thiruvananthapuram, is kidnapped to Ceylon and put to work on an estate. P. K. Rosy, a Dalit woman, played the heroine, a Nair; at the Capitol Theatre opening a crowd attacked the screen and later her house, and she left the state for good. Daniel lost everything and was not recognised until decades after. What can be shown are the stills, the accounts, and reconstructions built from them.
