Eleven P.M.

1928 · 66 min · US

Directed by Richard Maurice

A newspaper writer has until eleven at night to deliver a story and falls asleep at his desk, and what he dreams is the film: Sundaisy, a street violinist, takes in an orphan girl, stands between her and a hustler, loses, dies, and comes back as a dog to finish the job. Richard Maurice wrote it, directed it, and plays Sundaisy, and the double exposures and the reincarnation are done with a small company's means without losing their nerve. One of two Maurice productions that survive, and the only Black-made silent from Detroit that still exists. Maurice Film Company, 1928.
